Treatment Philosophy

"My goal is to foster an environment for my patients where together, we can develop successful strategies to navigate through many of life's challenges as well as help you achieve the life you want to live."

Dr. Brian K. Wise

Too often, when one enters the office of a mental health professional, the person is bombarded with a rapid fire "checklist" approach to diagnosis. While this is one way to assess the presence of mental health symptoms, it contributes very little to a true understanding of the person. Dr. Wise focuses on understanding who you are, what problems you are encountering, and how these are impacting your life. Dr. Wise has served on a National Institute of Mental Health task force devoted to the assessment of people's functioning, which exceeds the approach of simply "looking at the disorder and ignoring the person". He understands that if your symptoms diminish, but your life isn't better, you haven't gained very much. Let Dr. Wise help you go past simple "symptoms" to living the life you want to live!

Dr. Wise is committed to providing comprehensive, personalized assessments and offering patients the best options for treatment currently available. Treatments are carefully selected and individualized to meet the specific needs of each patient. Dr. Wise will discuss in an honest and open format, the evidence for selected therapies, and will work with each patient as they choose their course of treatment. If medications are necessary, only the safest medications with the lowest effective doses are prescribed. Complimentary (alternative) therapies are also incorporated into treatment plans, so long as scientific evidence finds alternative therapies to be beneficial. Dr. Wise's "Evidence-Based Practices" and personal approach to clinical care helps patients feel at ease and confident during the therapeutic process.
